Superstar singer Billie Eilish has revealed the details of a nightmare dating scenario she endured last year. The pop star, 22, who won multiple Grammy Awards, shared in a recent interview that she was ghosted by a date, forcing her to wonder if something awful had happened to him.

During an appearance on the South of the River podcast with Miquita Oliver, Eilish shared that she had ‘a crazy ghosting happen’ last year. Ghosting – when someone inexplicably and suddenly cuts off all communication – is a common term in Gen Z culture, and it seems even Grammy winners aren’t immune to the hurtful phenomenon.

Speaking to Miquita Oliver on the podcast, the Bad Guy singer said: ‘I’ve been ghosted for sure.’ She said she found it, ‘literally unbelievable. To this day, [he] never texted me again.’

‘I was like, did you die? Did you literally die?,’ she said. Eilish explained that she had made plans with the unnamed romantic prospect and never received any explanation after he never showed up.

‘It was somebody that I’d also known for years and had a plan, the day of, on the phone, making a plan, this is my address, be there at 3pm – never heard from him again. Ever. I couldn’t believe it,’ she said.

Soon, the singer discovered that the man who jilted her was not only alive and well but in a relationship with someone else. She described the hurtful revelation, saying: ‘And I was like “oh.” But I didn’t know people still did that. I genuinely didn’t know people did that.’

The singer – who released her third studio album ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ last month – also opened up about how fame ruined her friendships. Eilish first rose to fame at just 14 years old and soon found that she no longer was able to connect with her friends from her pre-fame life.

‘Well I lost all of my friends when I got famous,’ she told the hosts. She opened up about just how isolating fame at such a young age can be, stating: ‘I suddenly was famous and I couldn’t relate to anybody. It was tough. It was really hard.’

While Eilish was able to maintain a connection to her best friend Zoe, her only other friends were people who worked for her. ‘And then it was my 20th birthday and I remember looking around the room and it was only people that I employ. And all 15 years or more older than me.’

The sad reality of this arrangement became apparent to Eilish when one of her employees, who the singer considered a close friend, suddenly quit and broke off contact with Eilish. ‘And it was the worst thing that happened to me. And that made me realise like “oh wait, this is a job,” she said. ‘If they left me, they would never see me again.’

Now, in the wake of her ghosting experience and the betrayal by her ex-friend/employee, Eilish shared that she struggles to get close to the people she works with ‘because I’m very freaked out by loss and I have a lot of abandonment problems.’ Luckily, Eilish has reevaluated the isolation that fame brings and made a recent effort to create and maintain genuine friendships.

She happily shared with the hosts that, ‘Exactly a year ago, I reconnected with a bunch of old friends and now, I have so many friends.’ She continued: ‘I have a crew now! I could literally cry about it. It’s been the greatest thing that’s happened to me.’

The newfound sense of closeness with her inner circle makes Eilish emotional, and she admitted that she burst into tears while dancing with her friends at a party. She said: ‘I was like, “Guys, I have friends and I just love you guys so much, and it’s been so long since I’ve had friends.” I cried… and it’s literally because I actually have friendship now again.’
