Erika Kirk Opens Up About Charlie’s Final Moments in Exclusive Interview
Orem, Utah – In her first television interview since her husband Charlie Kirk‘s assassination, Erika Kirk shared emotional reflections about his final moments. The exclusive interview with Jesse Watters aired on Wednesday, revealing poignant details about the tragedy that changed her life.
Erika described the moment she saw Charlie lying in the hospital after he was fatally shot on September 10, during a stop on his American Comeback Tour at Utah Valley University. “He had this smirk on his face. That smirk to me is that look of ‘you thought you could stop what I’ve built,'” she recalled while fighting back tears.
During the interview, Erika discussed her life following her husband’s death, including how she explains his absence to their young children. “Yes, my daughter continues to ask, but it’s really sweet, because I keep explaining to her a few things. I said if ever you want to talk to daddy, you just look up to the sky and start talking to him,” Erika explained.
Despite the grief, Erika conveyed a message of resilience. “I’m not afraid, Charlie wasn’t afraid either. We never lived in fear. If we did, we wouldn’t get anything done,” she stated.
On Thursday, she will receive the first-ever Charlie Kirk Legacy Award at the Fox Nation Patriot Awards in New York. Erika, who was once Miss Arizona USA, stepped into the role of CEO of Turning Point USA after Charlie’s death, a decision he had expressed prior.
Charlie’s tragic fate came as he was addressing students about gun violence when he was shot. President Donald Trump mourned his death, stating, “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us.” Such tributes highlight the legacy Charlie leaves behind, deeply rooted in faith and the encouragement he offered to youth.
In reminiscing about their early relationship, Erika recalled a dinner that solidified their connection. “When we first met, he knew almost immediately that I was the one,” she said. Charlie proposed in December 2020, and they married in May 2021. Erika often posts about the deep love they shared, emphasizing the couple’s faith in God.
Erika Kirk’s journey is now one of carrying forth her husband’s vision, a mission she holds dear as she navigates motherhood and leadership after profound loss.
