49ers Predicted to Acquire DeAndre Hopkins in Trade Deadline Blockbuster
The San Francisco 49ers, currently struggling with a 3-4 record and significant injuries, are predicted to make a major move before the NFL trade deadline. According to USA Today‘s Cory Woodroof, the 49ers are likely to trade for three-time All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans. This move is largely driven by the season-ending ACL injury to key receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the absence of Christian McCaffrey from the field so far this season.
Hopkins, who signed a two-year, $26 million deal with the Titans in 2023 and will become a free agent after this season, has seen his performance impacted by the Titans’ inconsistent quarterback play and poor offense. Despite this, he remains a valuable asset, particularly in contested-catch situations. The trade would involve the 49ers sending a mid-round draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Titans.
The addition of Hopkins could significantly boost the 49ers’ offense, especially with Deebo Samuel on the roster, which would allow Hopkins to face fewer double teams and easier matchups. Hopkins’ veteran presence could also stabilize the receiving corps and help the team stay in the playoff race.
Tennessee’s general manager, Ran Carthon, who was previously with the 49ers, could facilitate the deal due to his prior connections with San Francisco. The Titans, with a disappointing 1-5 record, are likely to evaluate offers for their veteran players as part of their rebuilding efforts.
While there are other trade targets for the 49ers, such as Diontae Johnson and Cortland Sutton, the acquisition of Hopkins is seen as a strategic move to address the immediate needs of the team’s offense.
