Fairfield California Grass Fire Evacuation

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — Emergency crews are battling a three-alarm grass fire in Fairfield, prompting evacuation orders for nearby residents. The fire ignited around 3:45 p.m. near Vista Grande and Capitola Parkway on Monday, June 2, according to officials.

As of 5:03 p.m., the blaze has consumed at least 50 acres, with firefighting efforts still ongoing. Alert California cameras captured significant smoke plumes emanating from the hills, indicating the fire’s rapid spread.

The Fairfield Police Department has issued evacuation orders for residents on Bear Creek Drive, Palmer Circle, Penn Creek Drive, and Skyview Drive. A temporary evacuation center has been established at Lowe's located at North Texas Street and Manual Campos Parkway, officials added.

Cal Fire is actively involved in the firefighting operation, deploying four engines, one battalion chief, two handcrews, two dozers, one helicopter, an airtanker, and one tactical aircraft. City officials have urged residents to stay alert and avoid the area to facilitate the work of first responders.

Curiously, a herd of cows was spotted near the fire line, seemingly unbothered by the flames but quickly retreated in response to the danger. Earlier on the same day, a separate grass fire burned two to three acres near Sunset Avenue and East Travis Boulevard, which threatened nearby homes but resulted in no damages or injuries.

The cause of both fires is still under investigation. As crews work to gain control of the Vista Grande Fire, local residents and officials are remaining vigilant.
