LOS ANGELES, CA — After a 15-year hiatus since TRON: Legacy, Disney announced the upcoming sequel, TRON: Ares, set to hit theaters on October 10, 2025. This newest installment introduces a program called Ares, who embarks on a daring mission to enter the human world.

The film reintroduces Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn, a character he has portrayed since the original TRON. Joining him is Jared Leto, who plays Ares. In a recent interview, Leto expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m very excited for TRON: Ares coming to fruition.” He hinted at the possibility of revisiting his character from Legacy, saying, “Maybe it’s not the last anyone will see of Sam and Quorra.”

Disney describes the plot as Ares being sent from the digital world to the real world, marking humanity’s first encounter with A.I. beings. The film’s cast also includes Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Hasan Minhaj, and Gillian Anderson.

During the 2024 D23 Expo, details about the characters emerged. Peters revealed his character’s last name is Dillinger, echoing the antagonist from the original film. Lee portrayed her character, Eve, as a programmer whose work enables Ares to enter the real world.

The official trailer for TRON: Ares debuted on July 17, 2023. Leto shared his thoughts on his costume, describing it as an “amazing suit” and likening the experience of wearing it to being “a warrior.”

Music plays a vital role in the TRON franchise, with Nine Inch Nails set to compose the soundtrack for Ares. The band announced their involvement in August 2024, promising fans an iconic industrial rock experience.

Production of TRON: Ares took place in Vancouver, Canada, beginning in early 2024 after delays. Director Joachim Rønning announced the wrap of filming in May 2024 on his Instagram, thanking the crew for pushing filmmaking limits.

The TRON franchise continues to thrive, with recent expansions in theme parks and video games. For fans eager to revisit the world of TRON, both the original film and TRON: Legacy are available to stream on Disney+.
