Exciting Quarterfinals of CIF-SS Football Playoffs Kick Off This Friday
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The highly anticipated CIF Southern Section Division 1 football playoffs kick off on Friday, November 14, at 7 p.m. PT with four prime-time matchups featuring top teams like St. John Bosco, Mater Dei, and Sierra Canyon.
The top seed, St. John Bosco (9-1), will host the Orange Lutheran Lancers (2-8) in a first-round game. In their last encounter, Bosco dominated Orange Lutheran 48-0, extending their winning streak against them to 17 games.
Centennial Huskies (9-1) will face Servite (6-4) in a rematch of their season opener where Centennial won 42-14. Mater Dei (7-2) welcomes Mission Viejo (9-1) at Santa Ana Stadium, where Diablos senior quarterback Luke Fahey, an Ohio State commit, had an impressive performance with nearly 600 passing yards in a previous game.
Sierra Canyon (10-0) takes on Santa Margarita (7-3), with senior cornerback Havon Finney, who has committed to LSU, leading the Trailblazers. Sierra Canyon has won all its games by at least 30 points this season and is looking to continue its playoff success.
The semifinals for Division 1 will take place on November 21, followed by the championship game on November 28 at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena.
Various other divisions are also underway, but the Division 1 quarterfinals are the highlight this week, with potential upsets expected due to the competitive equity model that uses computer rankings.
As fans gear up for the action, notable matches from earlier rounds include Murrieta Valley’s 35-14 victory over Corona del Mar and Rancho Cucamonga‘s decisive 45-8 win against Tustin.
The quarterfinal matches include strong competitors, with Orange Lutheran playing at St. John Bosco and Servite at Corona Centennial. Also on the schedule are high-stakes matches across other divisions throughout California.
