New York Child Care Assistance Programs

In a significant move to support working families, Schenectady County in New York has announced an expansion of its child care assistance program. This initiative aims to help more families secure safe and affordable child care while parents are at work, seeking employment, or pursuing educational and training programs. The county is also simplifying the process for child care providers to become certified and receive reimbursement for their services.

Additionally, the New York State Education Department is seeking candidates for a Child Care Aide 1 position at the New York State School for the Blind. This role involves maintaining the safety and well-being of students, escorting them to activities, attending to their personal hygiene needs, and assisting in the development of daily living skills. The position offers a salary range from $41,399 to $50,884 annually, along with generous benefits including paid holidays, vacation leave, and personal leave.

The application process for the Child Care Aide 1 position requires candidates to submit a resume and a letter of interest by October 25, 2024. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications, including the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively, as well as being in good health and physical condition. Preferred qualifications include an Associate’s Degree or higher in the Human Services field and experience in related areas such as behavior modification and water safety certification.

This development highlights the ongoing efforts in New York to address the critical need for accessible and quality child care, supporting both families and the workforce.
