Storm Clouds Over South Georgia

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Spotty showers and overcast skies will transition into a stormy overnight period into Sunday morning across the Big Bend and South Georgia area, forecasters reported.

While a widespread severe weather event is not anticipated, the National Weather Service alerts that gusty winds, small hail, and even the possibility of a brief tornado could present risks for residents. This weather change follows mild temperatures in the 60s overnight, with Sunday highs expected to reach the mid-70s as moisture accumulates in the region.

Rainfall is slated to become steady before sunrise on Sunday, prompting officials to recommend that residents ensure they have multiple channels to receive severe weather alerts before heading to bed on Saturday night. “The risk for severe weather is currently rated at 1 out of 5,” said local meteorologist Jane Doe. “The timeframe for potentially damaging storms appears to be early in the morning, specifically after midnight but before 8 a.m.”

In addition to storm threats, the Weather Service estimates a significant area could see rainfall accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 inches. Although flooding is not expected to be widespread, low-lying areas with poor drainage may experience water buildup during periods of heavy rain.

The storm system is expected to exit the area after midnight Sunday night, paving the way for cooler temperatures and passing clouds on Monday. A return to sunnier and warmer conditions is expected by Tuesday, with only a slight chance of spotty showers on Thursday. “This upcoming week will see a notable shift towards warmer temperatures and clearer skies,” added Doe.

Residents are advised to stay tuned to ABC 27 First To Know Weather for ongoing updates and alerts. The area’s evolving weather conditions remain a key priority for meteorologists.
