Explosion Damages Detroit Apartment Complex, Injuries Reported

DETROIT, Mich. — An apartment complex on the city’s west side suffered significant damage early Monday morning after what neighbors described as an explosion. The incident took place around 4 a.m. near the intersection of Littlefield Street and Schoolcraft Road, leading to multiple injuries.
Reportedly, twelve individuals were rescued from the building, including three members of the same family who sustained serious injuries. Emergency crews arrived at the scene shortly after the explosion, with approximately 60 first responders from Detroit Police and Fire Departments assisting in the rescue efforts.
Chuck Sims, the executive fire commissioner, told reporters that rescuers faced a challenging situation where some residents were trapped at the windows, seemingly ready to jump. “They had people at the windows… kind of hanging off, ready to jump,” Sims said, highlighting the urgency of their response.
Firefighters employed ladders to reach residents on upper floors and managed to rescue at least one individual from the basement area. Fortunately, the fire was minimal and extinguished rapidly, preventing a more widespread disaster. “They did an amazing job,” Sims commended the initial responders, adding, “Without their fast response and fast reaction, this could have been a lot worse.”
Details regarding the cause of the explosion remain unclear, and local officials are conducting an investigation to determine what led to the incident. Authorities have confirmed that several individuals were transported to the hospital for treatment, including at least two adults with serious injuries.
