Explosion at De Pere Duplex Leaves One Injured and Causes Extensive Damage

DE PERE, Wis. – A fire followed by an explosion broke out Saturday afternoon at a duplex on Terry Lane, leaving one resident with minor injuries.
The Fox River Fire District received an emergency call reporting the incident around 3:00 PM, promptly dispatching several units to the scene at 2020 Terry Lane.
Upon arrival, fire crews observed smoke billowing from all sides of the building, indicating a severe fire condition. Witnesses reported multiple windows were blown out, and debris was strewn across the yard.
Firefighters discovered the blaze originated in the basement and contained it shortly after entering the property from the outside. All residents were evacuated safely, with one occupant having escaped to the roof to avoid the flames and assisted down by neighbors.
One person was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the explosion, but all others were evaluated and released at the scene.
The duplex, unfortunately, suffered extensive damage, estimated at $550,000, and is considered a complete loss. The Red Cross has been called in to assist displaced residents.
Multiple fire units from surrounding jurisdictions, including Lawrence, Hobart, Ashwaubenon, and Morrison, along with County Rescue, joined efforts to manage the fire.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, with officials looking into potential factors that led to the incident.
