Explosion Rocks Hunt Oil Refinery, First Responders on Scene

Tuscaloosa, Alabama – An explosion occurred at the Hunt Oil Refinery just before noon on Wednesday, sending smoke billowing into the air and prompting swift action from emergency responders.
The blast was reported around 11:45 a.m., and crews from Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue (TFR) arrived quickly to assist the Hunt fire brigade in stabilizing the situation. Public Safety Educator and Public Information Officer Holly Whigham stated that TFR is on site to evaluate any injuries and ensure that all personnel are accounted for.
WVUA 23 Chief Meteorologist Richard Scott, located approximately 16 miles north of the refinery, indicated that he could hear the explosion from his home, highlighting the force of the blast.
Mayor Walt Maddox arrived at the plant around 12:30 p.m., where he began discussions with plant workers and first responders about the incident. Authorities have not yet released information regarding the cause of the explosion or the number of injuries.
