Explosions Rock Jammu as India Intercepts Pakistani Missile Attacks

Jammu, India — Loud explosions rattled Jammu and caused a blackout across the city late Wednesday night as India’s air defense systems successfully intercepted multiple missiles launched from Pakistan.
Air raid sirens echoed in Jammu and even reached Kupwara, a town over 300 kilometers away, as local residents captured cellphone videos of lights across the sky, indicating the interception of drones and missiles over the region.
The Pakistan military attempted coordinated attacks targeting critical military installations across Northern and Western India, including cities like Pathankot and Chandigarh. However, officials from India’s defense ministry confirmed that all incoming threats were neutralized by the integrated air defense systems.
“Every attempt was foiled by our integrated air defense systems,” a senior defense official stated. India responded with targeted strikes on Pakistani air defense systems, including facilities in Lahore, as retaliation for cross-border artillery shelling that gruesomely killed sixteen civilians in Jammu and Kashmir, including women and children.
“Our response has been in the same domain and with the same intensity as Pakistan’s aggression,” the official added, assuring that India remains prepared for any further escalations.
In a major escalation, Pakistan launched drone and missile assaults from as early as 1:10 AM on May 8, targeting several Indian cities, including Jammu, Amritsar, and Jalandhar. The Indian forces activated their S-400 air defense systems, which successfully intercepted these threats before they could reach their destinations, according to the Ministry of Defence.
Debris recovered from multiple sites confirmed the attempted strikes by Pakistan. Following the assaults, power outages were reported; however, electricity was restored by early morning. There were also reports of Pakistani artillery targeting a Gurudwara in Jammu’s Poonch district, causing damage to its outer walls and raising alarm among locals.
Security agencies are on high alert following further threats of Pakistani drone mischief in bordering areas. The US Consulate General has issued warnings for American citizens in the vicinity, advising them to shelter in place or leave if safe.
As tensions rise, officials reiterated India’s commitment to protecting its territory and civilian population from any further provocations.
