Extreme Cold Warnings Issued for Saskatchewan, Saskatoon Included
Environment and Climate Change Canada lifted existing weather advisories in parts of Saskatchewan and replaced them with extreme cold warnings, with Saskatoon among the affected areas. The alerts, issued just after 3:30 p.m., extended from the far north to central regions of the province, reaching as far south as Craik, Leader, and Lucky Lake, excluding Regina.
The warnings, forecasting near -40 C wind chills overnight into Tuesday morning, were attributed to an Arctic High following the exit of the Alberta Clipper system. The agency highlighted the severe risks posed by extreme cold, particularly to vulnerable groups such as young children, seniors, individuals with chronic conditions, outdoor workers, and those without adequate shelter.
Advising the public to dress in layers and protect exposed skin to prevent frostbite, Environment and Climate Change Canada explained that extreme cold warnings are issued when the combination of low temperatures and wind chill poses heightened health threats like frostbite and hypothermia.
For further information and updates on the extreme weather conditions, individuals are urged to consult the official sources and alerts provided by the Environment and Climate Change Canada.
