Extreme Cold Weather Forces School Bus Cancellations In Several Communities

Extreme cold temperatures expected on Monday morning have led to the cancellation of school bus services in several communities. Schools in the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, Valhalla Community School, and those served by First Student buses will be affected by today’s cancellations. Despite this, Peace Wapiti School Division administration has confirmed that schools in their division will remain open.

Early this morning, Prairie Spirit School Division announced the cancellation of all buses due to the extreme cold weather, with temperatures reaching as low as -46 degrees Celsius when factoring in windchill. Students and parents are advised to check the division’s web page for updates on the afternoon run. Saskatoon Public Schools will also cancel bus services when the temperature, including wind chill, reaches -45 degrees Celsius or colder. However, all schools in the division will remain open.

Similarly, Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools has announced the cancellation of bus services for elementary school students in Saskatoon, Warman, and Martensville, as well as high school students from Martensville and Warman who travel to Bishop James Mahoney High School. The cancellation also affects intensive-needs high school buses in Saskatoon. Cancellations are in effect for the entire day, including both morning and afternoon services.

Saskatoon’s school division policy dictates that bus services be cancelled when the temperature, along with windchill, reaches -45 degrees Celsius. Service providers First Student Canada and Hertz Northern Bus are working to inform parents of route cancellations. All schools in the division will maintain regular school hours despite the cancellations.

For a comprehensive list of bus cancellations in Prairie Spirit School Division, visit their website. Similarly, individuals can find information about First Student Canada’s cancellations on their website. The same applies to Hertz Northern Bus, as they provide updates on their website as well.
