Fake Facebook Post Targets India’s NSA Ajit Doval Amid Security Alert

New Delhi, India – Pakistan‘s disinformation campaign recently targeted India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval through a deceptive Facebook post. The post falsely quoted Doval warning of an imminent cyberattack from Pakistan. It claimed, ‘Now coward country Pakistan is preparing for cyberattack secretly. Avoid clicking messages or picking up the phone from an anonymous number. And share this information with everyone.’
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has confirmed the post is fake. In a statement on social media platform X, PIB Fact Check stated, ‘This Facebook account is FAKE. The National Security Advisor does NOT have an official Facebook account. Citizens are advised to exercise caution and not engage with any impostor or fake profiles claiming to represent them.’
This clarification comes in light of heightened concerns regarding misinformation, especially regarding national security. The PIB urged individuals to rely solely on verified government sources for updates on sensitive matters.
Additionally, the Indian government dismissed claims circulating on Pakistani social media that an Indian Sukhoi Su-30MKI was downed and an Indian pilot captured. PIB noted that these images were taken from an old news report, misleading the public.
This episode highlights ongoing efforts to manipulate information and create confusion among citizens regarding security issues. As misinformation spreads, officials stress the importance of accurate reporting and vigilance against false narratives.
