Family Dispute Over Gallantry Award: Parents of Late Captain Allege Widow Took Kirti Chakra
The family of late Captain Anshuman Singh, who tragically lost his life in a fire incident at Siachen, has sparked controversy with allegations against his widow, Smriti.
Blaming Smriti for taking possession of the prestigious Kirti Chakra, a gallantry award posthumously awarded to their son by the government, along with personal belongings such as a cherished photo album and clothing, Captain Anshuman Singh’s parents have come forward with their grievance.
In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Captain Anshuman Singh’s father, Ravi Pratap Singh, raised concerns over Smriti changing the official address in their son’s documents from Lucknow to Gurdaspur, as well as controlling all communication related to their son.
Describing the events following their son’s passing, Singh expressed disappointment at the apparent claiming of the award and belongings by Smriti, highlighting their distress at not even being able to touch the revered Kirti Chakra awarded to their son.
Captain Anshuman Singh’s mother, Manju, recounted a distressing incident where Smriti allegedly took the Kirti Chakra from her hands after an award ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 5, in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu.
Hailing from Deoria in Uttar Pradesh, Captain Anshuman Singh was honored with the Kirti Chakra posthumously for his exceptional valor displayed in saving his comrades during a fire incident at Siachen Glacier.
