Family Of Missing British Teen Jay Slater Grateful For Local Support In Tenerife Search Efforts

The ongoing search for 19-year-old Briton Jay Slater, who went missing on 17 June while in Tenerife, has seen an outpouring of local support as his family continues their efforts to locate him. Slater, originally from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, disappeared after informing a friend that he was lost in the mountains, prompting the local authorities, including the Guardia Civil, to initiate extensive search operations.

His mother, Debbie Duncan, expressed profound gratitude for the kindness and dedication shown by a local hiking group and volunteers in Tenerife who have been actively involved in the search for her son. With the GoFundMe campaign surpassing £50,000, the family remains optimistic and appreciative of the unwavering support they have received.

Slater’s journey to the Spanish island commenced on 13 June when he attended the NRG music festival with friends, marking his first solo trip abroad. Following the event, he vanished while attempting to walk back to his accommodation from an Airbnb he had visited with acquaintances he met at the festival.

Despite the deployment of helicopters, drones, and search dogs in the search efforts, no conclusive leads have emerged, leaving Slater’s last known location at the Rural de Teno Park in the north of the island – an arduous 11-hour trek from his lodging. Duncan disclosed that experienced search groups have offered assistance, but the approval of the Spanish authorities is required for their involvement in the operation.

The family continues to be contacted by groups willing to aid in the search, and discussions are ongoing to determine the best course of action with these potential collaborators. Duncan reiterated their gratitude for the community’s unwavering support and collective efforts to help bring Jay Slater back home intact.
