Fans React to ‘Desperate Housewives’ Reboot Announcement

Los Angeles, CA — Fans of the hit series ‘Desperate Housewives‘ are expressing their discontent following news of a reboot titled ‘Wisteria Lane.’ The announcement came on Tuesday from Kerry Washington and showrunner Natalie Chaidez, who are teaming up to produce the new series for Onyx Collective, a Disney subsidiary.
The original ‘Desperate Housewives,’ which aired on ABC from 2004 to 2012, featured actresses like Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, and Marcia Cross. The show was known for its mix of dark comedy and drama, centered around the lives of women in a picturesque suburban neighborhood.
According to an official logline, the reboot will follow five distinct friends living on Wisteria Lane. The plot hints at idyllic suburban life hiding darker secrets, stating, ‘On the surface, all the Wisteria neighbors are living the dream… but behind those white picket fences and smiling Insta posts, are secrets.’
Fans quickly took to social media to criticize the reboot. Many expressed frustration, with one user on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing, ‘Whyyyyyy stop ruining the classics.’ Another user echoed, ‘No. Bring back the originals.’
Some commenters drew parallels between the reboot and the unsuccessful ‘Sex and the City’ sequel series, with one saying, ‘The same thing that happened to ‘Sex and the City’ is about to happen to ‘Desperate Housewives.’
The night prior to the reboot announcement, Longoria appeared on a talk show and noted that Marc Cherry, the creator of the original series, had expressed doubts about reviving the characters. ‘He feels like we’ve exhausted the characters,’ Longoria said.
Cherry, who famously created ‘Desperate Housewives,’ previously hinted at his own desire to explore earlier storylines set in Wisteria Lane, saying, ‘I wonder if I could write Wisteria Lane in like, 1966.’
The mixed reactions from fans highlight the ongoing debate over television reboots, with many questioning the value of revisiting beloved series without original creators involved.
