A Fantastical Glimpse Into 'wicked: Part One' Revealed In Super Bowl Teaser

During the Super Bowl, fans got a magical first look at ‘Wicked: Part One’ with a teaser trailer unveiling the enchanting world of Oz featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in vibrant green and pink hues. Directed by Jon M. Chu, the movie musical is a prequel to the classic ‘Wizard of Oz,’ narrating the backstory of Elphaba, the so-called Wicked Witch of the West and Galinda Upland who later becomes Glinda the Good Witch, based on Gregory Maguire‘s novel.

The star-studded cast includes Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, and Jeff Goldblum in pivotal roles like Madame Morrible, Fiyero Tigelaar, Boq, Pfannee, and the iconic Wizard of Oz respectively.

The teaser trailer hints at a twist on the traditional tale, showcasing Grande as Glinda calming Erivo’s Elphaba, who declares, ‘It’s the Wizard who should be afraid of me.’ Goldblum’s Wizard character sets the tone, emphasizing the importance of portraying a convincing enemy to unite people.

Director Jon M. Chu revealed that ‘Wicked’ will be a two-part adaptation to do justice to the complex storyline, with Part One set to hit theaters on Nov. 27, 2024, while Part Two is scheduled for Nov. 26, 2025. Composer Stephen Schwartz highlighted the challenges of translating the iconic song ‘Defying Gravity’ to the big screen, stressing the need for a break to maintain its impact.

Super Bowl also featured a glimpse of ‘Deadpool 3’ with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprising their roles, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. ‘Wicked: Part One’ promises a visually stunning and emotionally compelling journey into the land of Oz, bringing depth and surprises to the beloved characters’ stories.
