FBI Investigates Death of 18-Year-Old Anna Kepner on Cruise Ship
MIAMI, Florida — The FBI is investigating the death of 18-year-old Anna Kepner, who was found dead aboard the Carnival Horizon cruise ship while it was en route from Miami to the Caribbean on Saturday, November 8.
Anna was confirmed deceased by her family shortly after the ship returned to PortMiami. Described as a vibrant and spirited young woman, Anna was preparing to graduate high school and had plans to join the military.
“When she walked into a room, she would light it up,” her family expressed to ABC News. “If you were sad, she’d make you laugh. She would joke around and be the funniest little person in school.”
Carnival Cruise Line has acknowledged Anna’s passing, stating in a release, “Our focus is on supporting the family of our guest and cooperating with the FBI.” The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear as the investigation progresses.
Anna resided in Titusville, Florida, with her parents and two younger sisters. Her family noted her commitment to community service, mentioning her involvement in her grandparents’ 55+ neighborhood and local businesses. “She was a people person,” they said. “She had that type of energy that just drew you in with her smile.”
Beyond her social activities, Anna was an athlete from an early age, starting gymnastics at just two years old. She was a member of her high school’s varsity cheerleading team and enjoyed water sports, holding a boater’s license and scuba certification.
Her family finds solace in knowing that Anna lived her life fully, cherishing her friendships and dreams. “She wanted to do something that would help her community,” they remembered, reflecting on her aspirations.
Currently, the FBI’s field office in Miami is leading the investigation, but details about the cause of Anna’s death have not been disclosed. James Marshall, an FBI spokesperson, confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and requested that further inquiries be directed to law enforcement.
