Federal Government declares public holidays for Eid-el-Kabir celebration

The Federal Government has officially announced the declaration of public holidays to celebrate the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir festival. Monday, June 17, and Tuesday, June 18, 2024, have been designated as public holidays for this purpose.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Interior’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Aishetu Ndayako, the Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extended felicitations to all members of the Muslim Ummah, both within and outside Nigeria, on this auspicious occasion.
Tunji-Ojo urged the Muslim Ummah to uphold values of peace, benevolence, and sacrifice exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him) during this time and also encouraged prayers for national unity, prosperity, and stability.
The Minister emphasized the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu‘s administration to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians and called on the Muslim faithful and the general populace to cooperate in advancing economic diversification and recovery efforts.
President Tinubu, in line with the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, has departed the nation’s capital for Lagos State ahead of the festivities. He will be spending the holidays in Lagos, where he plans to observe prayers and reflect on the nation’s progress as outlined in his Renewed Hope Agenda.
A separate announcement from the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has confirmed Sunday, June 16, as Eid-el-Kabir day. This declaration follows the sighting of the first day of Dhul Hijjah on Friday, signaling the commencement of the Eid celebrations.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, Sambo Junaid, the Sultan extended warm regards to Nigeria’s Muslim Ummah and emphasized the importance of praying for peace, development, and prosperity in the nation.
