Fiery Crash on Edens Expressway Kills One, Injures Another

SKOKIE, Ill. (WLS) — A fiery crash early Tuesday morning on the inbound Edens Expressway left one person dead and another injured, according to Illinois State Police.
The accident occurred around 3:50 a.m. near Touhy Avenue. A semi-truck collided with a sedan, causing the sedan to end up in a ditch and the semi-truck to roll over and catch fire, striking the support beams on the Touhy bridge.
Illinois State Police reported that one individual died from life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash, while another was transported to a local hospital. The condition of the injured person is currently unknown.
As a result of the crash, all inbound lanes on the Edens Expressway are closed at Touhy Avenue. Traffic is being diverted off the expressway in this area. Officials anticipate that the closure will last for several hours as crews work to clear the scene and inspect the affected bridge.
The cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed by police, and the situation remains under investigation.
