Fiji Airports Signs $17.5 Million Deal to Modernize Nadi Airport

Nadi, Fiji – Fiji Airports has signed a significant agreement with Collins Aerospace to enhance passenger processing and infrastructure at Nadi International Airport. The deal, valued at FJD 17.5 million, was concluded at Fiji Airports headquarters today, marking a substantial commitment to improve airport services.
Chief Executive Officer Mr. Mesake Nawari and Collins Aerospace Global Director of Business Development – Airports, Mr. Steve Robinson, formalized the agreement, which aims to integrate advanced technologies into airport operations. “This important partnership signifies our commitment to delivering a world-class airport experience to all travellers,” Nawari stated.
The Digital Airport Transformation will be executed in two main stages. Stage 1, scheduled for implementation in 2026, includes core airport systems such as the Common Use Passenger Processing System (CUPPS) and Flight Information Display System (FIDS). These systems will operate from fully redundant data centers connected by secure networks across Fiji’s key international airports.
Stage 2, set for completion in 2028, will introduce biometric processing technologies. This includes biometric-enabled self-bag drop units and facial recognition e-Gates, aimed at speeding up check-in and boarding processes. Passengers will experience check-in in under 30 seconds and improved security measures, dramatically reducing wait times.
Robinson expressed pride in the collaboration, stating, “We’re proud to work alongside Fiji Airports to deliver a seamless, data-driven, and passenger-centric experience.” The aim is not only to innovate technology but also to enhance the overall travel experience, yielding higher satisfaction and increased commercial revenue.
Fiji Airports has worked closely with various stakeholders, including airlines and the Immigration Department, during the project’s planning stages. Nawari emphasized the collaborative approach, which will continue throughout the implementation phase to ensure a smooth transition.
The first stage is scheduled for commissioning in December 2025. To mitigate operational risks during the transition, Fiji Airports has extended its existing support contract with SITA, ensuring minimal disruption for travelers and airline partners.
This initiative supports Fiji Airports’ vision to become “The World-Class Aviation Hub for the Blue Pacific,” enhancing connectivity and boosting the Fijian economy by modernizing airport operations.
