LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Amazon’s popular police procedural series “Bosch: Legacy” is gearing up for its third and final season, which premieres on March 27, 2025. The season will consist of 10 episodes, releasing in chunks every Thursday, culminating in a series finale on April 17. Fans of the franchise can expect closures on various character arcs, alongside new storylines drawn from Michael Connelly’s works.

Developed by Michael Connelly, Tom Bernardo, and Eric Overmyer, “Bosch: Legacy” is a sequel to the original “Bosch” series, which aired from 2014 to 2021. While the original show ran for seven seasons and 68 episodes, the spinoff will conclude with just three seasons and 30 episodes. The announcement regarding the cancellation came in September 2024, a surprise to many fans who have seen the show’s continued engagement and support.

Michael Connelly expressed pride in the show’s accomplishments in a statement following the cancellation. “I am so proud of what we have accomplished with this show. Ten years ago, I asked Titus Welliver if he could stick with Harry Bosch for five seasons, and he said he could do it forever,” he said. “Well, five became 10, and the character, thanks to Titus, will live forever in the hearts of viewers.”

Despite efforts from fans who launched a petition to reverse the cancellation, Amazon has maintained its decision to end “Bosch: Legacy” after its third season. The cancellation has sparked speculation that production costs played a role in the company’s decision. While the show has garnered a loyal fan base, it appears financial considerations weighed heavily for Amazon.

Moreover, the series is running low on source material, as only one remaining novel from Connelly’s Harry Bosch series, “The Waiting” published in 2024, can be adapted. The third season will be based on Connelly’s 2022 book “Desert Star,” making it clear that the franchise is nearing a natural conclusion.

The cast of “Bosch: Legacy” features notable names such as Titus Welliver as Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch, Mimi Rogers as Honey “Money” Chandler, and Madison Lintz as Maddie Bosch. In the upcoming season, Bosch will be portrayed as delving into personal and professional challenges while grappling with ongoing investigations alongside the new character, Detective Renée Ballard, portrayed by Maggie Q.

Amazon has also revealed plans for a spinoff series centered on Detective Ballard, who is set to debut in the final episodes of “Bosch: Legacy.” Details regarding the spinoff are still under wraps, but it is anticipated to premiere in the fall of 2025, potentially extending the universe of Bosch beyond its titular character.

Titus Welliver, who has embodied the role of Harry Bosch, remains hopeful about future opportunities to explore the character. He suggested that as with other successful franchises, Bosch could return in feature-length films, and he actively teased plans for future content involving the character.

As fans eagerly await the final season, it is clear that the legacy of Harry Bosch will continue to resonate, whether through future spinoffs or adaptations. The “Save Bosch: Legacy” campaign has highlighted the unwavering support from dedicated fans, illustrating the character’s significant impact on television.
