Fire Crews Battle Forest Blaze Amid Tornado Watch in Arkansas

LOWELL, Ark. — Multiple agencies are fighting a forest fire near East Highway 264, according to the Hickory Creek Fire Department (HCFD). The fire broke out before 5 p.m. on March 14, prompting a coordinated response from the HCFD, Lowell Fire Department (LFD), Washington County Forestry Service, and Hwy 94 East Fire Department.
By 6 p.m., fire crews reported that the blaze was fully contained on the lake side of Hickory Creek; however, the fire continued to spread on the Piney Point side. This situation has raised concerns as a tornado watch remains in effect for several surrounding counties, including Madison, Carroll, Franklin, Johnson, and Logan.
The ongoing severe winds are complicating firefighting efforts as crews work to manage the flames. A burn ban is currently enforced across much of the region, further complicating matters. ‘Conditions are not ideal for fire safety,’ stated HCFD officials, urging residents to remain vigilant.
As the forest fire continues to be monitored, authorities recommend keeping clear of the affected area. Residents should also stay updated through local news channels and official advisories regarding weather patterns and fire safety.
