Fire Destroys Four Structures on Remote Deal Island
DEAL ISLAND, Md. – A devastating fire destroyed four structures on a remote island in Maryland on Monday afternoon, causing an estimated $600,000 in damages. The blaze, reported at 1:30 p.m. at 11190 Roland Parks Road, took firefighters approximately two hours to control.
The fire originated in a 32-foot by 60-foot building on a privately owned 20-acre island accessible only by boat. Strong winds and low tide hindered firefighting efforts, allowing the flames to spread to a vacant single-family home and two sheds. All four structures were deemed a total loss.
Deputy State Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the fire. The property owner has not been identified, and no injuries were reported.
Local authorities urged caution in the area due to ongoing hazardous conditions, including freezing temperatures and strong winds. The incident highlights the challenges of emergency response in remote locations.
