Fire Engulfs Historic Nottoway Plantation in White Castle

WHITE CASTLE, La. (WAFB) – Fire crews are responding to a significant fire at Nottoway Plantation on Thursday afternoon. The historic plantation is recognized as one of the largest antebellum homes in the South.
The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office shared images of the blaze on social media, showing thick smoke rising from the side of the structure. The extent of the damage is currently unknown.
Nottoway Plantation was built in the late 1850s and is located along La. 1 in White Castle. Officials stated that there have been no reported injuries in connection with the fire.
Authorities have announced road closures on LA-1 and River Road as fire crews work to contain the flames. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
