Erik Spoelstra House Fire

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A large fire erupted Thursday morning at the home of Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra. The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported the blaze began shortly after 4:30 a.m. at the residence on Southwest 80th Street. Firefighters arrived to find two structures on the property engulfed in flames.

An assistant coach confirmed Spoelstra was present outside the home as emergency crews battled the fire. Video footage showed him visibly distressed while firefighters continued their efforts.

The fire quickly escalated, prompting officials to upgrade to a second alarm for additional manpower. “Due to a partial collapse, units switched to a defensive attack and are still working to extinguish the fire,” the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue stated in an email.

As of Thursday morning, no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire comes as the Miami Heat are facing struggles on the court, having lost to the Denver Nuggets 122-112 the previous night. Miami center Bam Adebayo left that game with a foot injury and is scheduled for an MRI later today.

In the wake of the fire, the Heat are set to host the Charlotte Hornets for an NBA Cup group stage game tomorrow.
