Fire Prompts Evacuation at Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — A chimney fire at the Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid prompted the evacuation of guests and staff on Wednesday night. The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department received the call shortly after 8 p.m., sending multiple crews to the scene.
Firefighters from various departments worked to contain the blaze, which was reported under control by around 1 a.m. on Thursday. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the evacuation, which ensured the safety of all individuals present at the time.
The fire, primarily contained to the chimney area, caused minor damage to a few surrounding rooms. According to officials, the quick response from emergency personnel played a crucial role in preventing further destruction of the property.
The Lake Placid Fire Department stated, “The rapid containment of the fire is a testament to the teamwork and preparedness of all responding units.”
The lodge is located on Route 86 and is a popular destination for visitors to the region. Authorities will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
