Fire at Redondo Beach Pier Quickly Contained, No Injuries Reported
A fire broke out at the historic Redondo Beach Pier on Monday, January 6, 2025, just after noon, prompting a swift response from local fire departments. The blaze, which started on the exterior of the Maison Riz restaurant, spread to the interior and roofline, leading to the evacuation of seven people. No injuries were reported.
The Redondo Beach Fire Department (RBFD) responded immediately, calling for a second-alarm fire due to the structure’s age and wooden construction. Firefighters from neighboring cities, including Torrance, Manhattan Beach, and El Segundo, assisted in containing the fire. The RBFD also deployed a fire boat to attack the blaze from the ocean side.
According to RBFD officials, the fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, and the pier was closed for approximately 30 minutes while crews worked to ensure the area was safe. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with arson investigators on the scene to determine its origin.
The Redondo Beach Pier, a popular tourist destination, is known for its historic wooden structures and oceanfront dining. The quick response by fire crews prevented significant damage to the pier and surrounding businesses. Officials praised the coordinated efforts of the multiple fire departments involved in the operation.
Julie Sharp, a digital producer at CBS Los Angeles and a South Bay native, reported on the incident. Sharp, who majored in print journalism at Cal State University Long Beach, highlighted the importance of the pier to the local community and its resilience in the face of such emergencies.
