CARLSBAD, Calif. (CNS) – Firefighters made significant progress Friday in controlling a 45-acre wildfire that ignited in eastern Carlsbad, leading to temporary evacuation orders. Ground and aerial crews worked diligently to combat the flames.

As of 7:03 a.m. Friday, Cal Fire officials reported that the fire stayed at 45 acres and was 90% contained. The fire began for reasons that remain unclear shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday in rugged terrain near Corte Claro and Camino Minero, close to the western limits of San Marcos, according to Carlsbad Fire Department spokesperson Holly Angeles-Gonzales.

A public information officer with Cal Fire expressed optimism, stating, “Firefighters are optimistic they will reach 100% containment today.”

While evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted, San Diego County Sheriff's Office urged residents to remain cautious due to the presence of active emergency crews in the area.

Fire crews continued their efforts by building containment lines and extinguishing hot spots within the perimeter of the fire. A total of 63 personnel were assigned to combat the blaze, which included six fire engines and three fire crews.

The sheriff’s office provided assistance throughout the firefighting efforts. Thankfully, no structural damage or injuries were reported. The investigation into the fire’s cause is currently underway.
