First Trailer Released for Sci-Fi Comedy ‘Bugonia’ Starring Emma Stone

LOS ANGELES, CA — Focus Features has released the first trailer for “Bugonia,” the newest collaboration between director Yorgos Lanthimos and star Emma Stone. This film is a remake of the South Korean sci-fi comedy “Save the Green Planet!” and tells the story of two conspiracy-obsessed friends who kidnap a powerful CEO, believing she is an alien with plans to destroy Earth.
Emma Stone stars as the CEO, while Jesse Plemons portrays her unstable kidnapper. The cast also includes Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. Lanthimos directs from a script written by Will Tracy, known for his work on “The Menu” and “Mountainhead.” This film marks a continued partnership between Stone and Lanthimos, following their successful previous projects, including “Poor Things” and “The Favourite.”
In a statement to Variety, Focus Features Chairman Peter Kujawski expressed excitement about the collaboration, describing Lanthimos as a “cinematic visionary” who captivates audiences worldwide. “We could not be more excited to partner with him, Emma, and the incredible teams to reimagine this twisted and darkly funny story,” Kujawski said.
Miky Lee, a producer on the film, emphasized the connection to Korean cinema, stating, “I expect that Yorgos will ignite a dynamic chemical fusion with his unique style and the novelty of the narrative.”
Behind the scenes, Lanthimos has brought together a talented crew. The team includes editor Yorgos Mavropsaridis, cinematographer Robbie Ryan, production designer James Price, and composer Jerskin Fendrix. The film’s sound mixer is Johnnie Burn and Jennifer Venditti serves as the casting director.
“Bugonia” will premiere in select theaters on October 24, followed by a wider release on October 31.
