Flash Floods Pennsylvania May 2025

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for parts of western Pennsylvania, primarily affecting Butler and Lawrence counties. This warning is set to remain until 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, as heavy rainfall continues in the region.

Pittsburgh‘s Action Weather meteorologist Jeff Verszyla reported that isolated thunderstorms with embedded downpours are expected this evening. The rain that started in the morning will resume after 3 p.m. and might include gusty thunderstorms before nighttime.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch through 5 a.m. on Thursday, anticipating rainfall totals between 1.5 to 3 inches. Officials warned that low-lying areas are particularly vulnerable, as waterways like creeks and streams could overflow.

On Thursday, more rain and cool temperatures are predicted, with highs only reaching 56 degrees. This will contribute to ongoing flood concerns for the region.

Friday’s forecast indicates a slight increase in temperatures to 58 degrees but still features plenty of clouds and the possibility of isolated showers. The weekend is expected to bring temperatures back into the 60s, with a high of 62 on Saturday.

A cold front moving through the area will also bring wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph, which could impact conditions throughout the day. Residents are advised to monitor local alerts and take precautions against potential flooding.
