Flash Floods Hit Burlington and Hamilton Amid Heavy Rainfall Warning
A rainfall warning has been issued by Environment Canada for the cities of Hamilton and Burlington due to ongoing heavy rainfall with the potential for flash floods. The warning came shortly after noon on Monday and follows a multi-day heatwave impacting the region.
Residents in Hamilton and Burlington are advised to brace for up to 60 millimetres of rainfall. According to the latest update at 12:45 p.m., downpours of 30 millimetres per hour are expected in the area.
Environments Canada stated that showers and thunderstorms will persist, bringing torrential rain over the next few hours. Halton Police reported multiple flooded intersections in Burlington, with the stormwater systems overwhelmed as a result.
Halton Police urged drivers to avoid certain roads in Burlington that have been affected by flooding. As a precautionary measure, residents are encouraged to keep away from these areas until water levels recede to ensure safety and prevent accidents.
On another note, alongside the heavy rainfall warning, a heat event has been forecasted to continue impacting the region. A cool air mass is anticipated to move in by Tuesday, bringing relief from the sweltering conditions.
