NW Florida Braces for Coldest Air of the Season with Freezing Temps
Northwest Florida is preparing for the coldest air of the season as a cold front sweeps through the region, bringing plummeting temperatures and biting wind chills. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, Alabama, warned residents of a rapid temperature drop starting Monday, January 6, 2025, with freezing conditions expected to persist for three consecutive nights.
By Monday morning, temperatures will begin to fall, with daytime highs struggling to reach the 40s. Wind chills will make it feel like the 30s throughout the day, and actual air temperatures will drop into the 30s by sunset. Overnight lows are forecast to plunge into the 20s, with some areas experiencing freezing temperatures for more than eight hours at a time.
The NWS stated in its Sunday afternoon discussion, ‘Behind the front, temperatures will plummet rapidly into the 30s and 40s. Highs on Monday may struggle to reach 40 degrees across most of the area. Lows Monday night should be around 8 to 12 degrees below normal, quickly dropping into the 20s.’
Residents are advised to take precautions to protect themselves, their homes, and their pets from the extreme cold. Local authorities are also urging people to check on vulnerable neighbors and ensure heating systems are functioning properly.
This cold snap is expected to last through Thursday morning, with temperatures gradually moderating by the end of the week. The NWS continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as needed.
