Florida Drugs Arrest Crime Scene

HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida man has been arrested after inadvertently alerting authorities about illegal drugs he left behind in a home from which he was being removed. The incident occurred on Friday when deputies responded to a call concerning Christopher Newton, who was asked to leave a residence.

According to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, while officers were on the scene, Newton allegedly texted the homeowner claiming he had ‘left a baggie on the nightstand.’ This message prompted deputies to seek consent for a search of the room where Newton had been staying.

During the search, officers discovered a plastic bag containing a substance that tested positive for cocaine. Newton was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of cocaine. Authorities humorously noted in a social media post, ‘If you’re going to leave something behind, maybe don’t text about it!’

The length of Newton’s stay in the home prior to his removal remains unclear.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in SPRING HILL, Fla., a man was arrested following a shooting incident at a local bar that left a window shattered. Reports indicate that 40-year-old George Labar was involved in a physical altercation inside Capone’s bar off County Line Road. After being escorted out, Labar fired several rounds from his Dodge Ram truck as he drove away, striking one of the bar’s windows. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

Pasco County deputies pursued Labar, who fled and ultimately crashed into a fence and a patrol car before being taken into custody. He now faces multiple charges including shooting and fleeing from deputies, and is being held without bond.

In another noteworthy case, Colombian authorities apprehended a 40-year-old man attempting to smuggle over $10,000 worth of cocaine concealed in a wig. The suspect was set to board a flight from Cartagena to Amsterdam when anti-narcotics officers detected the hidden drugs during a security scan at Rafael Nunez International Airport. The officer used scissors to reveal packets of cocaine concealed in the wig’s fibers.

This year, Colombian authorities have reported over 450 arrests related to drug trafficking and the seizure of more than 115 kilograms of narcotics.

In TAMPA, Fla., a pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by an off-duty deputy’s patrol vehicle. The crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday when the 30-year-old man attempted to cross Memorial Hwy. south of Hillsborough Ave. Emergency responders transported the injured individual to a local hospital. The identity of the deputy involved has not been released as investigations continue.

Lastly, in BONITA SPRINGS, Fla., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office released bodycam footage of the arrest of 42-year-old Adam Naylor, who is accused of carjacking a van and crashing it into a gym while under the influence. Naylor allegedly confronted the driver in a hotel parking lot, demanded the vehicle, and subsequently crashed it into a gym. Deputies located him with the assistance of a K9 unit, and he was arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail.

The sheriff, Carmine Marceno, expressed relief that no injuries occurred during Naylor’s crime spree and praised the K9 unit for their swift action. Naylor is currently being held without bond.
