Flyers Face Bruins in Home Preseason Opener

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia Flyers kick off their home preseason schedule on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. EDT against the Boston Bruins, led by Marco Sturm. The game will take place at Xfinity Mobile Arena and can be streamed on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com, with radio coverage on 97.5 The Fanatic.
The Flyers’ roster features several regular NHL forwards, with Trevor Zegras making his preseason home debut. Other familiar faces include team captain Sean Couturier, last season’s Bobby Clarke Trophy winner Travis Konecny, and newcomers like Christian Dvorak.
Defensively, Cam York and Travis Sanheim will continue their partnership, which has been prominent in training camp. Coach Rick Tocchet indicated that York could anchor a defensive pair this season, highlighting the importance of their established chemistry.
In goal, Samuel Ersson will start, having recently played a period in Montreal, with rookie Carson Bjarnason also dressing for the matchup. Ersson is crucial as he ramps up for the regular season.
Among the prospects, rookies Jett Luchanko and Alex Bump are again set to dress, hoping for strong showings that could secure their places on the team. Both players have demonstrated potential during training camp.
Rodrigo Abols has stood out so far, competing for a bottom-six forward spot, especially with Karsen Dorwart sidelined due to injury. Abols has shown endurance and skill, adding pressure to keep pushing for a roster position.
As the Flyers look to build momentum, Tocchet’s focus on lineup stability and player performance will be key. The matchup against the Bruins serves as an important step in finalizing preparations for the upcoming season.
“We want to see our guys adjust and step up against competitive teams,” Tocchet said. “Each game is a chance to solidify positions and game readiness.”
