Former Incarnate Word QB Zach Calzada Commits to Kentucky for 2025 Season
Former Incarnate Word, Auburn, and Texas A&M quarterback Zach Calzada has committed to play for the University of Kentucky in the 2025 season. This move marks Calzada’s third stop in the SEC, as he looks to bolster the Wildcats‘ quarterback position after a 4-8 season in 2024.
Calzada had a standout year at Incarnate Word in 2024, throwing for 3,744 yards and 35 touchdowns, with only nine interceptions. He also contributed on the ground, rushing for 332 yards and five scores, leading the Cardinals to an 11-3 season.
A three-star recruit from Lanier High School in Georgia, Calzada initially committed to Texas A&M in the Class of 2019. He was the 33rd-ranked quarterback and the 429th-ranked player overall in his recruiting cycle. After taking a redshirt in 2019, Calzada saw significant playing time with the Aggies during the 2021 season under Coach Jimbo Fisher, throwing for 2,185 yards and 17 touchdowns with nine interceptions.
Calzada then transferred to Auburn in 2022 but did not see any action due to shoulder surgery. He subsequently transferred to Incarnate Word, where he had his breakout season. With his medical redshirt from Auburn, Calzada has one year of eligibility remaining for the 2025 season.
This commitment is significant for Kentucky, which is looking to improve its quarterback depth and performance. It will be interesting to see how Calzada performs in his final year of college football at the SEC level.
