Former NBA Player Patrick Beverley Arrested for Alleged Assault on His Sister
Fort Bend County, Texas — Former NBA player Patrick Beverley, 37, was arrested early Friday morning and charged with third-degree felony assault after an altercation with his 15-year-old sister at their mother’s home. The incident occurred around 3:50 a.m. when deputies responded to a call about possible family violence.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Beverley’s sister had left home without permission to visit her 18-year-old boyfriend. Upon her return, their mother summoned Beverley, who confronted the girl about her actions. It’s alleged that Beverley grabbed her by the neck, lifted her off the ground, and squeezed for 20 to 30 seconds, causing her pain and difficulty breathing.
The affidavit states that Beverley also punched his sister in the left eye and made threatening statements during the incident. Deputy Miguel Ramirez, who responded to the scene, reported seeing visible markings on the girl’s neck and petechiae in her eye.
After the altercation, Beverley followed the boyfriend outside, where the boyfriend called the police. Upon returning home, Beverley was arrested and booked into the Fort Bend County Jail, where he posted a $40,000 bond the same day.
Later Friday, Beverley took to social media to express concern about the allegations, stating, ‘Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet.’ His attorney, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, emphasized that he has no criminal record and cares for his sister, asserting that they do not believe the events unfolded as described in the affidavit.
Beverley is scheduled to make a court appearance on December 15. If convicted of the third-degree felony, he may face two to ten years in prison and substantial fines.
