Former England cricket captain Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff is set to present a reboot of the classic darts-themed quiz show “Bullseye” for ITV, featuring a special Christmas episode. Flintoff, who also serves as a television presenter, expressed excitement over his new role, stating that “Bullseye was one of my favourite shows as a kid,” and he “can’t quite believe” he will be hosting it.

“Bullseye,” originally aired on ITV from 1981 to 1995 and presented by the late comedian Jim Bowen, was widely popular and known for its combination of darts competition and quiz segments. The format involves three pairs of contestants, each comprising a darts player and a quiz participant, working together to win various prizes. Flintoff’s announcement referenced the show’s famous mascot, Bully, echoing Bowen’s catchphrase, “You can’t beat a bit of Bully!”

The show experienced immense popularity at its peak, attracting audiences up to 20 million and varying its time slot from Monday nights, to Sunday afternoons, and later to Saturday afternoons. After its initial run ended, “Bullseye” was revived on the Challenge channel in 2006.

Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment and Daytime Commissioning at ITV, expressed enthusiasm for the show’s return, saying, “Bullseye is back and we can’t wait to welcome Freddie Flintoff back to ITV too. It’s a real treat to have both as key parts of our Christmas schedule on ITV1 and ITVX this year.”

Flintoff is gradually returning to the public eye following a significant accident during the filming of “Top Gear” in 2022. The incident, which resulted in facial and rib injuries, occurred at the show’s test track in Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey. Flintoff has openly discussed the difficulties of his recovery in the BBC series “Freddie Flintoff’s Field Of Dreams On Tour,” revealing struggles with anxiety, nightmares, and flashbacks.

Besides his television appearances, Flintoff has re-engaged with cricket, having rejoined the England coaching staff for the T20 series against the West Indies and serving as head coach for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.
