Game of Thrones Star’s Last-Minute Casting Change in Andor Revealed
LOS ANGELES, CA — A surprising casting twist occurred during the production of the Star Wars series Andor, involving Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann. McCann, known for his role as the fearsome Hound, was originally set to portray Brasso, a character who is a friend of Cassian on the planet Ferrix.
However, due to an injury, McCann had to withdraw from the role. McCann had been struggling with a limp before a scan revealed a more serious issue that required immediate surgery. Joplin Sibtain, who was initially cast in a smaller role, got the chance to audition for Brasso after McCann’s departure. “They did a scan on it and the consultant said, ‘If you don’t have this operated on, you’re going to not be able to walk,’” Sibtain recounted.
As a result of McCann’s injury, production reshot scenes to accommodate Sibtain, who had to have his face superimposed to maintain continuity with the character. This unique adjustment ensured that the story remained intact, despite the last-minute changes.
Currently, McCann is set to play Baylan Skoll in season 2 of Ahsoka, taking over from the late Ray Stevenson. “I get to see Rory nearly daily at the moment, and he has been amazing to work with,” said a colleague involved in the production. “He is definitely a gift for us to have. And there couldn’t have been anyone better to take on this role.”
Season 2 of Ahsoka is expected to premiere in 2026, while Andor wrapped its initial season earlier this year, continuing to gain interest among fans of the Star Wars franchise.
