Garth Brooks Faces Serious Allegations as Lawsuit Emerges
Country music star Garth Brooks faces a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault and battery, according to CNN and USA TODAY reports. The accusations were filed by a former hair and make-up artist who alleges that Brooks raped her in a Los Angeles hotel room in 2019. In a legal complaint filed under the pseudonym Jane Roe, it is claimed that the 62-year-old singer “seized what he saw as an opportunity” to exploit the vulnerability of an employee.
The lawsuit, initiated in a California court, reportedly follows Brooks’ attempt to prevent the public disclosure of these allegations by filing a lawsuit anonymously as “John Doe” in a Mississippi federal court on September 13. The legal document claimed that the allegations, if made public, “would irreparably harm” Brooks’ reputation and livelihood, according to USA TODAY.
Roe’s legal representatives, Douglas H. Wigdor, Jeanne M. Christensen, and Hayley Baker, commended their client’s “courage in moving forward” against Brooks. They emphasized that such behavior is not confined to industries typically spotlighted for these issues, asserting the presence of “sexual predators” within the country music arena. The attorneys encouraged other potential victims to come forward, underlining that “no survivor should suffer in silence.”
The complaint illustrates a history between Roe and Brooks, beginning in 1999 when Roe was employed as a hairstylist and make-up artist for Brooks’ wife, Trisha Yearwood. Her professional relationship with Brooks reportedly started in 2017, with the alleged abuse beginning shortly after.
Detailed allegations include an incident where Roe claims Brooks made unwanted advances in his home during a styling appointment. The lawsuit also outlines an event in May 2019, when Roe and Brooks traveled to Los Angeles for a Grammy tribute. During the trip, Brooks allegedly booked a hotel suite with no separate accommodations, and further assaults reportedly took place.
The legal filing describes another disturbing episode where Brooks allegedly held Roe and spoke inappropriately about his “sexual prowess” during the purported assault. Despite the severity of these claims, Brooks reportedly continued with his public engagements shortly after the incidents mentioned.
The lawsuit also includes accusations of inappropriate sexual conversations, explicit text messages, and suggestions of sexual threesomes. Brooks’ representatives and that of his wife, Trisha Yearwood, have yet to publicly comment on the lawsuit.
