Gary Busey Faces Court Over Sexual Misconduct Charges

CHERRY HILL, N.J. — Actor Gary Busey appeared virtually in court on March 24, 2025, facing charges of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, attempted criminal sexual contact, and harassment. The charges stem from allegations that the 80-year-old actor inappropriately touched at least three women at the Monster Mania Convention in August 2022 held at the Doubletree Hotel in Cherry Hill, a suburb of Philadelphia.
During the hearing, Busey’s attorney, Blair R. Zwillman, entered a not guilty plea on behalf of the actor. Zwillman, who took over the case last week, mentioned a potential plea offer but indicated that he is also preparing a motion to dismiss the charges based on ‘exculpatory affidavits’ received from previous counsel.
According to the allegations, the incidents occurred during photo opportunities at the convention on August 13, 2022. The victims reported inappropriate conduct during the meet-and-greet sessions with Busey.
After reviewing the case, Judge Gwendolyn Blue scheduled the next hearing for April 21, where she will consider Busey’s application for pre-trial intervention (PTI). This program may allow offenders to engage in community service, pay restitution, or enroll in mandated treatment for up to 30 months.
Busey, who is best known for his role in the 1978 film ‘The Buddy Holly Story,’ which earned him an Academy Award nomination, continues to deny all allegations against him.
The legal proceedings come nearly three years after the alleged incidents, highlighting the complexities of criminal cases involving public figures. Busey appeared remotely from Malibu, California, as proceedings moved forward in New Jersey.
Inquiries regarding the details of the case have not yielded additional information from the defense team, and the prosecution has not commented further at this time.
