A historic Powerball jackpot was won in Georgia on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, marking the first time a jackpot has been won in the state since 2016. The winning ticket, purchased at a Quick Mart located at 2155 Buford Dam Road in Buford, Georgia, matched all six numbers to secure a $478.2 million jackpot.

The winning numbers for the drawing were 2, 15, 27, 29, and 39, with the Powerball being 20. This jackpot is the largest ever won in Georgia’s history, surpassing the previous record held by a Mega Millions winner from Stone Mountain who claimed half of a $648 million jackpot in 2013.

In addition to the Georgia winner, two other tickets, one sold in Pennsylvania and the other in Texas, matched all five white balls to win $1 million prizes each. Nationwide, 616,153 tickets won prizes in the drawing.

The jackpot winner has the option to take either the full $478.2 million paid out in annual payments over 29 years or a lump sum payment of $230.6 million, both before taxes. Winners in Georgia have 180 days from the draw date to claim their prizes and can choose to remain anonymous if they wish.

The Quick Mart where the winning ticket was sold will receive a $50,000 retailer incentive bonus payment from the lottery. This significant win comes after several other major Powerball jackpots were won in 2024, including in Michigan, Oregon, Florida, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and California.
