Germany Faces Luxembourg in Crucial UEFA Qualifier Match
BERLIN, Germany — The German national team will face Luxembourg this Friday, October 10, in a pivotal UEFA qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup. Coached by Julian Nagelsmann, Germany currently sits in third place in their group, along with Slovakia and Northern Ireland, and urgently needs a victory to stay competitive in the standings.
Germany is up against Luxembourg, the group’s weakest team, which has suffered two consecutive losses. A win would not only boost morale but also strengthen their position in the qualifying table.
In preparation for this important match, Nagelsmann has announced his starting lineup. Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann of Hoffenheim will start in place of Marc Ter Stegen, aiming to leave a memorable mark in his opportunity for regular play.
On defense, Jonathan Tah will fill in for injured Antonio Rüdiger. The Bayer Leverkusen player looks to establish himself as a leader with his solid performance. Joining Tah will be Waldemar Anton, who has only nine caps for the national team, but has made a good impression on the coach with his versatility. Another defender, Robin Koch from Eintracht Frankfurt, brings height and strength to the backline.
In midfield, Jamie Leweling of Union Berlin aims to utilize his speed on the right flank, while David Raum of RB Leipzig looks to provide offensive support with precise crosses from the left. Veteran midfielder Joshua Kimmich will direct the tempo of the game and facilitate play between the defense and attack, alongside Leon Goretzka from Bayern Munich, who is expected to contribute both defensively and in goal-scoring opportunities.
The attacking front will feature Serge Gnabry from Bayern Munich, who has been influential in previous matches. With 23 goals in 53 matches, he will be looking to add to that tally. Alongside him, Florian Wirtz is hoping to bounce back from a challenging start at Liverpool, while Maximilian Meier will take the place of the sidelined Nick Woltenmade, stepping up for just his fifth appearance with Die Mannschaft.
This match is vital for Germany’s chances at qualification, and the players will be eager to demonstrate their skills and secure the win on home soil.
