GLAAD Media Awards 2025: 303 Nominees Celebrate LGBTQ Stories
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards announced 303 nominees across 33 categories on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, spotlighting groundbreaking LGBTQ stories in entertainment, journalism, and media. The awards, presented by GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues.
This year’s nominees include high-profile projects such as “Abbott Elementary,” “Agatha All Along,” “Baby Reindeer,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” and “The Umbrella Academy.” Music artists like Billie Eilish, Elton John, and Victoria Monét also received nominations, alongside journalistic efforts from outlets such as The Advocate, Bloomberg TV, and PBS.
GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis emphasized the importance of LGBTQ visibility in media, stating, “This year’s nominees represent the best of our vibrant community, spanning across all media, genres, and mediums. They send a loud and global message that our stories are not only popular and entertaining but necessary and culture-changing.”
The awards ceremony, set for March 27, 2025, in Los Angeles, will feature a mix of red carpet arrivals, iconic stage moments, and a celebration of LGBTQ representation. Special Recognition honors were also announced for projects like “DRAG: The Musical,” “Red Ink: A Tribute to Cecilia Gentili,” and the WNBA 2024 Champions, the New York Liberty.
GLAAD’s mission to accelerate LGBTQ acceptance through media visibility remains critical amid rising anti-LGBTQ legislation and misinformation. The organization has expanded its Outstanding Blog category to Outstanding Independent Journalism, recognizing the growing influence of independent creators and news organizations.
Since its inception in 1990, the GLAAD Media Awards have become the most visible annual LGBTQ awards show globally, celebrating stories that challenge stereotypes and promote understanding. This year’s nominees reflect work published, released, or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2024.
