Gladiator II Set to Hit Theaters on November 22, 2024
After more than two decades in development, *Gladiator II*, the highly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott‘s 2000 epic *Gladiator*, is finally nearing its release date. The film, directed by Ridley Scott, is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States and Canada on November 22, 2024.
The sequel follows Lucius, the son of Maximus and Lucilla, played by Paul Mescal. The story takes place several decades after the events of the original film and explores themes of survival, power, and humanity. The cast includes notable actors such as Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, and Joseph Quinn.
*Gladiator II* had its world premiere in Sydney, Australia on October 30, 2024, and was released in Australia and New Zealand on November 14, 2024, and in the United Kingdom on November 15, 2024. The film has received generally positive reviews from critics, with an early Rotten Tomatoes score of 74%.
The film’s release coincides with the first part of the two-part film adaptation of the musical *Wicked*, sparking interest in whether the dual release could replicate the success seen with the simultaneous release of *Barbie* and *Oppenheimer* earlier in 2023.
*Gladiator II* has a runtime of 2 hours and 28 minutes and has been given an R rating by the Motion Picture Association for strong bloody violence.
