Goldie Ghamari Ousted from PC Caucus for Meeting Anti-Islam Campaigner
Carleton MPP, Goldie Ghamari, has been expelled from the Ontario PC caucus following a controversial meeting with a British anti-Islam campaigner.
Ontario Premier, Doug Ford, announced the decision, citing Ghamari’s ‘serious lapses in judgment’ and inability to work constructively with caucus leadership.
The expulsion came after Ghamari shared a photo on social media showing her meeting with Tommy Robinson, a known figure associated with anti-Islam sentiments and criminal activities.
The National Council of Canadian Muslims condemned Ghamari’s actions, labeling Robinson as an ‘Islamophobe and criminal’.
In her defense, Ghamari stated that she was unaware of Robinson’s background and had met him to discuss Canada’s recent designation of Iran‘s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity.
Following backlash, Ghamari expressed regret over the meeting and emphasized her condemnation of Islamophobia and hate.
Adil Shamji, a Liberal MPP at Queen's Park, criticized Ghamari’s actions, highlighting the pain caused to Canadians and questioning the lack of prior vetting regarding Robinson’s history.
Robinson, a controversial British activist, was recently arrested in Calgary for allegedly misrepresenting himself while visiting Canada.
Ford’s decision to remove Ghamari from the caucus was met with mixed reactions, with some commending the move as necessary and others expressing disappointment.
The Toronto Star and the National Council of Canadian Muslims were among the organizations that took a strong stance on the matter.
