Al Gore Trump Administration Climate Change

San Francisco, CA — Former Vice President Al Gore delivered a powerful critique of the Trump administration’s approach to climate change on Monday, comparing its actions to Nazi Germany’s early tactics during a speech at Climate Week.

Speaking at the Exploratorium museum, Gore criticized the administration for its green energy policies, stating, “It is abundantly clear that after only three months and one day, the new Trump administration is attempting to do everything it possibly can to try to halt the transition to a clean energy future.” He further elaborated on the administration’s rhetoric, highlighting statements that dismiss the urgency of the climate crisis, saying, “They say the climate crisis is a hoax invented by the Chinese to destroy American manufacturing.”

Gore acknowledged the sensitivity of comparing any modern regime to Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich but urged that lessons could be learned from history. He said, “I understand very well why it is wrong to compare Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich to any other movement. It was uniquely evil, full stop. But there are important lessons from the history of that emergent evil.”

His remarks surfaced as criticisms of the Trump administration intensified, with three former presidents, including Joe Biden and Barack Obama, also making pointed remarks about Trump’s policies. Biden recently stated the administration has caused “so much damage and so much devastation” in less than 100 days.

The White House responded to Gore’s comparison through Communications Director Steven Cheung, saying, “Usually those who yell the loudest about Nazis are often times using their same tactics themselves.”

Gore concluded his speech urging his audience to take action, affirming that the U.S. is “under attack” in terms of climate policy. He advocated for the need for renewed political will to combat the impending climate crisis, stating, “If you doubt for one moment ever that we as human beings have the capacity to muster sufficient political will to solve this crisis, just remember that political will is itself a renewable resource.”
