Gospel Singer Nathaniel Bassey Seeks Legal Action Against Defamatory Accusations
Gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey has taken legal action against individuals who falsely accused him of being the father of Mercy Chinwo’s child. Bassey’s lawyers submitted a petition to Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, alleging criminal defamation and cyberstalking against social media users Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, Terrence Ekot, and Dj Spoiltkid.
Last week, the accusation went viral on X (formerly known as Twitter), claiming that Bassey fathered the child of fellow gospel singer Mercy Chinwo. Bassey’s legal team emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that these false accusations can damage his reputation and have broader personal and professional consequences.
The petition highlighted Bassey’s impact as a gospel music minister whose songs have touched lives globally. On March 29, 2024, Mercy Chinwo Blessed, a popular gospel minister, shared pictures of her son and family on various social media platforms. Bassey was perturbed to find defamatory posts by the suspects, alleging that he was the father of Mercy Chinwo Blessed’s child, despite her being married to another man.
